So I’ve seen the Oscar-nominated movie “UP” on blu-ray at least half a dozen times with my little girl (believe me, that number would be a lot higher if it starred a princess). Each time I see “UP” I can’t help but feel a little something tug at this ‘ol lug’s heartstrings during the scenes featuring Carl and his wife. If you’ve seen the movie, you know what I’m talkin’ about. It’s the part of the movie where I usually hear, “Daddy, are you crying?” “No sweetheart, daddy has something in his eye.”
Anyway, it wasn’t until the last time I saw the movie that it finally dawned on me—the real message of the film. No, I’m not talking about the “everyday is an adventure” mumbo-jumbo. The real take-away is simply this: save your money in an actual account, not in a jar at home!!! Maybe Carl could have taken his sweet wife to Paradise Falls if he was earning five and a half percent on his investment. Imagine, 50+ years of interest he never earned. Now that’s a real tragedy!
